Our guide will pick you up at the airport.
He will take you to your lodge in Moshi on Kilimanjaro’s southern flank.
Here you will stay at Honey Badger Lodge, a lush hidden oasis in a rural community. The swimming pool and lush, spacious grounds offer guests a wonderfully natural, relaxing environment. The restaurant serves delicious local dishes.
Honey Badger Lodge
Located in a rural community, the lodge offers breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest mountain).
The lodge offers different accommodation options such as lodge rooms with private bathrooms, for individuals, couples and families.
The restaurant prepares a deliciously unique blend of Swahili and worldly flavours. You can relax in and by the pool. And in the lush gardens you will find an abundance of local flora and fauna.
After breakfast, you will be picked up at 9 a.m. by your cycling guide for an adventurous bike ride through the last remaining stretch of lowland forest on Kilimanjaro’s southern plains. Your visit to the protected Rau forest supports its conservation and expansion. At the visitor center, the local guide Daniel will explain local conservation initiatives.
Cycling through the forest on modern mountain bikes, you’ll see native birds, monkeys (including Colobus monkeys), butterflies, and giant trees. You’ll also visit nearby rice fields and cycle past local villages, experiencing rural life and the Chagga tribe’s culture. The Chagga community produces local beers. After tasting the beer, you’ll enjoy a local lunch made by a house mother in your guide’s village before returning to the lodge in the late afternoon.
After breakfast we leave for Mkomanzi National Park.
During the trip (2 hours), we will travel past quite a few villages and discover the life of the locals.
By midday, we drive into the park for the first safari trip to the lodge. Mkomanzi Wilderness Retreat is a new, small-scale tented camp in the Mkomanzi National Park.
This is a luxury camp located in the heart of the park, overlooking the park’s largest waterhole and with views of Kilimanjaro.
The camp consists of 5 luxury tents overlooking the Dindira plains. 2 with a traditional tent entrance and 3 luxury tents with sliding glass doors at the front, all with veranda
Each tent has a terrace and a walk-in bathroom with rain shower.
The open restaurant, bar area and private viewpoint are located above the tents on a ridge that offers stunning views of the Pare Mountains and Kilimanjaro.
Meals are prepared with locally available ingredients from the organic farm.
Today we spend a full day in the park.
Mkomanzi National Park in northern Tanzania is a stunning and vital wilderness area. Covering 3,245 square miles, it is bordered by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro to the northwest, the Pare and Usambara Mountains to the south, and Kenya’s expansive Tsavo National Park to the north. This positioning makes it part of one of the largest and most significant protected ecosystems in the world.
Mkomanzi features a classic dryland habitat with gray green nyika bush, ancient baobab trees, and isolated rocky hills. The landscape also includes open savannah forests with umbrella acacias and shallow grassland valleys known as mbugas.
The park’s wildlife is typical of arid regions, including giraffes, oryx, gerenuks, hartebeests, small kudu, elands, impalas, and Grant’s gazelles. Larger animals such as elephants and buffaloes also inhabit the area, alongside various predators including lions, leopards, and cheetahs.
Mkomanzi serves as a critical sanctuary for two endangered species: the black rhino and the African wild dog.
The park’s breeding programs for these species are conducted in restricted areas that visitors can access.
This morning, we visit the Rhino Sanctuary, where the park’s rhino breeding program is located. Accompanied by rangers, we will search for these rare and majestic animals.
After our visit, we will leave the park and drive towards Lake Chala.
During the four-hour journey, we will make several stops to visit villages and local markets, allowing you to connect with the local people.
We will spend the night on the banks of the lake at Lake Chala Tented Camp.
Here, you will stay in one of six spacious tents, each equipped with a private bathroom, veranda, and minibar. The tents offer great views and ample space.
The dining area is dramatically situated on the edge of the crater walls, providing breathtaking views of the lake and Kilimanjaro beyond. Here, you will find peace and comfort, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind in this stunning landscape.
Lake Chala, a crater lake in a caldera on the border between Tanzania and Kenya and 52 km from the city of Moshi, is measured at a depth of 95 meters, making it deeper than the famous Lake Victoria. The lake is filled and drained by underground water and varies in color from deep blue green.
Walk along the 100-metre-deep crater rim to the lake shore and cool your feet on the waterfront among the rocks or take a canoe for a trip on the water.
Today, we journey to Enduimet along the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro, where we’ll be treated to spectacular views of both the landscape and the mountain.
The Enduimet Wildlife Management Area is a hidden gem in northern Tanzania. Unlike the more frequented national parks, Enduimet sees few tourists but boasts abundant wildlife and stunning vistas of Kilimanjaro. For those seeking a more adventurous experience in Tanzania and wishing to explore less-visited places, Enduimet Wildlife Management Area is the perfect destination.
In Enduimet, you’ll encounter many Maasai villages. Since this park is more off the beaten path, visiting a local Maasai village here provides one of the best opportunities to experience authentic Maasai culture without the crowds of tourists.
Tonight, we’ll camp at the Chui Campsite, spending a night in the wilderness. When we arrive, our team will have already set up the tents, and our cook will be preparing the evening meal. After dinner, we’ll gather around the fire to chat and enjoy the night.
This morning, we rise early and start our day with a cup of coffee or tea before embarking on a walking safari. Accompanied by our Maasai ranger, we set out to find elephants and giraffes.
A walking safari is a unique adventure. It’s an extraordinary experience to encounter a giraffe or elephant on foot, being able to see, hear, and even smell these majestic animals from just a few meters away.
After the walk, we return to camp where our cook has prepared a delicious breakfast. Once we’ve finished eating, we break camp and head towards Arusha.
We spend the night at Nyota House, an African decorated guesthouse in a residential area of Arusha, Njiro.
This morning, we explore the vibrant city center.
Arusha is a bustling agricultural city, a tourist hub, and a crucial headquarters for safaris in East Africa.
We will visit Arusha’s Maasai Market, home to the finest collection of Maasai artworks. From bead jewelry to traditional clothing, the market offers it all.
The collection is curated by the most talented Maasai artisans from the region.
We have lunch at one of the local restaurants.
Depending on your flight, we will then drive to the airport (1h30 drive).
We will make you a tailor-made safari proposal.
