8-Day Trip - Wildebeest Migration Safari

Wildebeest Migration Safari

The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti is one of the most spectacular wildlife events in the world. Each year, millions of wildebeest, along with zebras and other herbivores, make a circular journey from the southern Serengeti to the Maasai Mara in Kenya and back again, following the rains and the availability of fresh grazing.

The migration typically starts in late January or early February, when the wildebeest give birth to their calves in the southern Serengeti. By April, the herds start to move northwards in search of fresh grazing.

Day 6 – Serengeti North East – Serengeti Central

This morning we set off on another game drive to the central part of Serengeti.

The Central Serengeti, located in the heart of this spectacular national park, is the most popular part of the reserve. Here you will find acacia-covered savannah and an abundance of wildlife.

It is a fantastic area to see the Great Migration in action. Some of the best locations in the Central Serengeti to see the herds are the Seronera Valley and Seronera River, Moru Kopjes, Simba Kopje and Maasai Kopjes.

If you are looking for big cats, the Seronera area in the Central Serengeti is your best bet: this area is hailed as the best place to see predators – especially lions, leopards and cheetahs – during exciting hunting parties.

And with a bit of luck, you will find not only the ‘Big Five’ here, but also the ‘Little Five’, their less spectacular colleagues.

We overnight at “Sound of Silence”, a private, intimate affair between you and the raw power of the Serengeti. Almost every night, herds of antelope and zebra enter the camp to shelter while they rest.

On the morning drive through the endless plains of the Serengeti, towards the Ngorogoro entrance gate, we see large herds of wildebeest and zebra and troops of lions lazing in the shade.

We leave Serengeti and enjoy a picnic lunch at the Ngorongoro crater entrance gate.

Arriving at the crater, we descend almost 600 meters into the crater floor for an exciting game drive.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely populated African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals, including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhinos.
