Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain, with an impressive height of 5895 meters and a kilometer-long visible snow-covered summit.
There are seven possible routes to climb the world’s highest free-standing mountain, each with their own pros and cons. Which route you take depends on your mountain experience, what you want to experience along the way, acclimatization, and price.
Distance: 61 km – 8 day trip – 7 day climbing
This route is perhaps the most beautiful climbing route in the world. And this because of the stunning views, the impressive climb along the Barrano wall and the well-trodden paths. The Machame route also has a different way up than down, allowing you to see a lot of Kilimanjaro.
There are six-day and seven-day route options, with us preferring the seven-day route to so you have an extra acclimatization day. This route is ideal for acclimatization as you can climb high and sleep low. With the right preparation, the Machame Route is doable for everyone.

Our guide will pick you up at the airport and takes you to the foot of Kilimanjaro.
Kaliwa Lodge in Moshi, is located in a very beautiful spot in the Kilimanjaro region. The views are overwhelmingly beautiful. In addition, the lodge is also known for its beautiful surroundings, good service and friendly staff.
Here you will also meet our mountain guide who will give you a briefing and check your equipment with you.
Distance 5 km. – Trek 5 to 6h. – Difficulty, medium
Today, the route passes through a beautiful tropical rainforest.
There is a humid climate on this side of the mountain, making it beautifully green.
Distance 5 km. – Trek 4 to 5h. – Difficulty, medium to easy
The trek today elps you to acclimatise and get used to the altitude. The hike starts out steep but as a result you will soon have great views.
Our experienced guide will help you find the right pace to cover the altitude gain.
Distance 11 km. – Trek 6 to 8h. – Difficulty, medium
Today, we hike to the beautiful Lava Tower. This part of the climb has many ascents and descents and offers stunning views along the way.
During the hike you will feel the effects of the altitude
Therefore, we take our time at Lava Tower to get used to the altitude.
After the lunch, we descend to Barranco Camp.
During the descent, you will come across your strange flowering plants as tall as five metres!
Barranco Camp lies at the foot of the imposing Barranco Wall.
Distance 11 km. – Trek 8 to 10h. – Difficulty, heavy
Today, we climb the challenging and steep Barranco Wall. On the Barranco wall, you will have spectacular views of the Kibo volcano and Mount Meru further away.
After a short break, start a more difficult hike to Karanga Camp, a route with numerous ascents and descents.
Barafu Camp is the last camp before the summit, here you will be offered a hot meal. Afterwards, take time to relax and sleep, around midnight the climb to the summit begins!
Distance 15 km. – Trek 8 to 12h. – Difficulty, heavy
At night, you will depart from Barafu Camp for the summit of Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak). The challenge of this part of the climb is the high altitude. In case of problems, you can count on the help of our yeasts.
After reaching the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent sunrise. This is very impressive at such altitude.
After a short celebration, we descend to the nearest glacier back to Barafu Camp. After an hour’s rest, we descend to Millennium Camp.
Distance 12 km. – Trek 4 to 5h. – Difficulty, easy
We spend a last night in the tropical rainforest. After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, we walk to the park exit.
After a short celebration with the whole team, we’ll take you back to the lodge.
Today you can relax and admiring the view or explore the surroundings.
